Lancelot du Lac
Lancelot du Lac, according to some legends, was raised by the Lady of the Lake. Other legends state that he was from an area in France. Regardless, he was the son of King Ban and was one of the most famous Knights of the Round Table, and for a time he was Arthur's closest companion. His cousins were Sir Bors and Sir Lionel. He was handsome, brave, and courageous.
Lancelot had heard stories of the many great deeds that King Arthur had accomplished, and he idolized the young ruler. He could think of nothing more he wanted than to meet the King and join his knights. On his way to Camelot to meet Arthur and hopefully join the Round Table, Lancelot encountered the Black Knight, a huge, menacing figure on a magnificent horse. The Black Knight did not have any heralds or banners to proclaim his identity, but he challenged the young Frenchman to a jousting duel. As Lancelot had trained for years, he violently unhorsed the Black Knight on their first parley. Once the Black Knight stood up and removed his helmet, it was revealed that he was in fact King Arthur, whom Lancelot had nearly killed. Lancelot immediately bowed to the king and begged forgiveness. Arthur laughed, and said he'd heard that Lancelot was on his way to Camelot, and came to meet him to test his skills. Arthur said Lancelot had nothing to be sorry for, and knighted him on the spot.
One of his deeds included slaying a dragon for King Pellas. While celebrating this magnificent victory, he met the king's daughter, Elaine. King Pellas had received a vision stating that his grandson by Lancelot and Elaine will grow up to be the greatest knight in the world, and will find the Holy Grail. The king knows that Lancelot's true love is Queen Guinevere, and so he used a magic spell to make his daughter look like the queen.
The king's plan worked, and Lancelot and Elaine had a son named Galahad. Lancelot did not love Elaine, and he left her with her father.
While with King Pellas, Lancelot claims to have vision of the Holy Grail. Lancelot was later prevented from finding the Grail because he was an adulterer.
Later, another woman named Elaine, the Lady of Astolat, fell in love with Lancelot. He did not return her love, and she died of her grief. There is another version of that story here.
Read a more detailed, if slightly different, version of his story here and here and here and here.
